Chrysanthemum LOVES her name--until she begins school and is teased mercilessly. A girl with a 12-letter maiden can certainly appreciate that! (Chrysanthemum has 13 letters)! Fortunately, someone arrives on the scene and opens up the eyes of Chrysanthemum's classmates. I won't spoil it here for you.
What else do I love about this picture book? Henkes uses repetition, a tool that engages young readers and helps them learn to recognize words. There are also a lot of stars. Where do falling stars go? Do you know? Do you know?
